The A10 West is the only big highway in the region cutting through residential areas. Since the A5 is now connected at Westpoort a new, big city ring emerged. The 10 kilometers of A10 West can become a city street, like the Wibautstraat.
Architect van Eesteren never designed a highway in his city expansion plan, but because of the spacious design of his plan it was possible to squeeze one in later on.
Amsterdammers and others concerned
the A10 is one of the busiest highways in the Netherlands
the A10 is infamous as most dangerous stretch of highway in the country
the Einsteinweg was designed as city street and later on upgraded to highway
the housing close the road (because it was supposed to be a street) suffer a lot of polution and noise
since the A5 now connects with Amsterdam Westpoort from knooppunt Raasdorp a larger cityring emerged (see the map from the newspaper illustrating the temporary closure)
if you drive this 10 kilometer at 80 you will be 4,5 minute faster than at 50 km/h. But now you are also more often in a traffic jam. At 50km/h the capacity increases and the number of accidents decrease. Which will make the speed more reliable.
transform the A10 West into a city street with a maximum speed of 50 km/h.
